Romantic Idealists

August 28, 2019 – February 16, 2020

Romantic idealists are not limited by reality but follow their idealistic goals and state their visions. The artists in this exhibition are prime examples of this attitutude – romantic idealists par excellence. Beyond conventions and art historical or commercial caveats, they dedicated their life to an idea that became their mission – independent from all feasibility of their efforts. Julius Bockelt, Urs Hanselmann, Julia Krause-Harder, Ilmari Salminen, Ben Wilson, Parzival’, and Vanda Vieira-Schmidt work obsessively and unflinchingly, solely motivated by their belief to do good for humanity, to improve the world, to make it more beautiful, to document it for posterity or to safe it. They want to make the world a better place, revive the dinosaurs, or contribute to world peace. Their ideas and goals are dreams, clairvoyant visions in all facets of the word. They inspire and amaze us, perhaps encourage us to go our own way, to not give up, to aspire to the grand good in small acts or at least they make us dream of this.
